Nokia’s New Phones Will Be Made In India
As everyone knows that the Finnish company Nokia was once the largest cellphone manufacturer in the world and this Finland-based company was actually well-known all around the world, and it still seemed like Nokia will remain at the very top position in the mobile world that also for a very long time.
But, as we all know that the Finnish company Nokia made quite a few mistakes at the time of switching over to smartphones, where they first started with their own two OS’, well known as Symbian and MeeGo. But, later on, Nokia signed a contract with the tech giant Microsoft simply to manufacture Windows Phone devices.
However, that exclusive contract between the Finnish company Nokia and the tech giant Microsoft did not go well and as a result of the tech giant Microsoft finally purchased the Nokia’s Devices and Services unit. But, later again a twist occur where the tech giant Microsoft announced that they sold the Finnish company to Foxconn well, sort of, they were technically sold to HMD Global, which is Foxconn’s brand, essentially.
Foxconn Technology Group, the world’s largest contract manufacturer of phones which is currently preparing to expand its operations locally by the next year, as it has already made $600 million investments in India. After India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative, many cell phone manufacturers from China started manufacturing phones in India through the world’s largest contract manufacturer of phones, Foxconn Technology Group.
Foxconn Technology Group’s head of India operations well known as Josh Foulger told that “Since last year, we have restarted operations and right now we’re in finalizing 2017 plan, there will be more expansion,”.
Even the Foxconn Technology Group’s head of India operations, Josh Foulger added that “The Finnish company Nokia, which is already preparing for its comeback, will also be made by Foxconn as the company along with HMD Global had already bought Nokia’s brand license and feature phones business from Microsoft earlier this year”.
When “The Economic Times,” asked the Foxconn Technology Group’s head of India operations, Josh Foulger that if the tech giant company like Apple plans to start manufacturing of iPhone in India in partnership with Foxconn? Foulger said that “The Cupertino-based company Apple will make a decision based on the global supply chain, hence, the Companies like Apple will have to take a diligent view on the market in India”.
However, the world’s largest contract manufacturer of phones, Foxconn Technology Group seems to be enthusiastic about the Indian government’s state manufacturing program under the “Make in India” initiative.
Furthermore, Foxconn Technology Group’s head of India operations, Josh Foulger stated that from a manufacturing standpoint, the country like India has the logistic advantage, not just for India only but for the Middle East countries and Africa as well. So, if you look at making India a manufacturing point for the 800 million phones, then definitely it looks very attractive, as India cost is competitive. Though it may take time but if it managed well then it can bring massive positive returns.
