Have a Look Inside The Facebook's Massive Data Centre in Sweden
Data centers are generally massive and at the same time, they are very beautiful too. Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared few images of its Luleå, Sweden-based data center from his account.
Energy consumptions of huge data centers have always been a headache for tech companies. Microsoft has been exploring the possibility to create underwater data centers. However, for facebook keeping the internet cool is simple.
We must agree to the fact that data centers are generally massive and at the same time they are very beautiful too. Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared few images of its Luleå, Sweden-based data center from his account.
Mark Zuckerberg shared a key part of their global infrastructure in which he stated that they were starting deep in the forests of northern Sweden with the Luleå Data center. Lulea is a small town which is less than 70 miles south of the Arctic circle.
Mark Zuckerberg said in the Facebook post “The small town of Luleå is less than 70 miles south of the Arctic Circle, and it’s typically pretty cold. The temperature in the area is below 50 degrees most days, so we use large fans to pull in the outside air to naturally cool the thousands of warm servers that line the center’s broad hallways”
“A dozen hydro-electric plants operate on nearby rivers, providing a reliable and renewable power source. The whole system is 10% more efficient and uses almost 40% less power than traditional data centers.”

At Luleå, that’s down to two minutes.Old and obsolete hard drives are crunched, forever protecting privacy. Christer Jonsson is in charge of this important task. “I must be very careful,” he says.The center opened in 2013, and was our first outside the US.
